The NHL announced Friday that it will play a pair of games Saturday night against the New York Islanders, which would be the first time the two teams meet since the 2010-11 season.
The NHL is hoping that the Islanders and Capitals, who are playing for the Eastern Conference’s last wild card spot, can put the two games behind them.
Both games will be broadcast on MSG+ in the United States, but they are not expected to air live on the Internet.
The Islanders, who have won two of their past three games, will play the Minnesota Wild on Friday night.
The Capitals will play Minnesota on Saturday, while the Islanders will play Washington on Sunday.
The teams are scheduled to play again in the playoffs.
The Penguins have played six games in the last month and the Rangers have played four.
The Sharks have not played since the start of the season.
